I'm Ellie, I'm 21 and studying English Literature and Linguistics at the University of Manchester. More than for my course, I have a passion for food. I created this blog in order to transcribe my culinary experiments and indulgences as a student. It'll be fun to look back on, but a bonus if other people read it too!
The Name
It's alleged that the phrase 'A square meal' was coined due to the shape of the crockery served by the Royal Navy. While it's true that angular wooden plates were used, it is contested as to whether the etymology of the saying has been invented for the sake of a good story. Whether the expression be true or not, I've updated it to fit my circle shaped plate collection.
